Fed: Ann Hollingworth home after mastectomy

CANBERRA, April 30 AAP - Ann Hollingworth, the wife of the governor-general, has returnedto Yarralumla in Canberra after radical surgery for breast cancer.

Mrs Hollingworth had undergone a mastectomy at the John James Memorial Hospital inCanberra last Thursday afternoon and returned home on Monday, a spokesman for Governor-GeneralPeter Hollingworth said in a statement.

"Mrs Hollingworth is making good progress after surgery and she will shortly embarkon a course of chemotherapy treatment," the spokesman said.

"She hopes to join her husband in the performance of their representational dutiesas soon as she is able.

"Mrs Hollingworth would like to thank the many people who have sent her greatly appreciatedmessages of support, particularly the many women who have themselves gone through thisexperience."

The spokesman said many flowers had been received and were much appreciated.

"Mrs Hollingworth would also like to thank the surgeon, doctors and staff at John JamesMemorial Hospital for their excellent care and attention."
